Father…
“You give me Your shield, which is salvation,
Your right hand holds me up,
Your humility makes me great.
You lengthen the steps I can take…”
“Your humility”? We think of You as many things… but humble?
Or is the psalmist saying that there is a humility that we can demonstrate towards You and which will bring us greatness… that is Yours, Your creation, what You define it to be… and not of our own imagining?
And if it is as You say through the author of wisdoms:
“…before being honored, a person must be humble.”…what must we be careful of that would rob us of greatness in accomplishment, greatness in Your eyes?
“Before being ruined, a person’s heart is proud…”
“Pride goes before destruction,
and arrogance before failure.”
You give great power in victory that carries with it the obligation to do great good.
The temptation is great to think higher of ourselves and what we think than we should and we can become proud and arrogant. We may take pleasure in “ruling over” rather than “shepherding”, in “dictating” rather than “serving”.
Father, our prayer is for our leaders, for their protection.
May they approach with humility, the exercise of power and decision making.
May they seek the moral rightness and wisdom of Your ways in governing.
May they do so without deference but for the well being and good of all.
May it be that our leaders then, would be representative of who we are as a people.
In Yeshua’s name we pray…
Amen.
